Program Description

The objective of this program is to deliver the highest quality Dental Assistant education. The graduate will be able to perform the functions that are most frequently practiced by the clinical dental assistant at a professional and proficient skill level. In order to successfully pursue a career as a Dental Assistant, the student needs to be friendly, outgoing, enjoy working with people, and be comfortable caring for an individual's needs. The student should also be empathetic, yet able to be objective and understand the clinical and medical aspects of dental patient treatment.

As a qualified dental assistant, the student will be required to work closely with the dentist, charting, preparing and mixing materials, providing nutritional and preventive dental counseling, and taking x-rays. The H.A.R.P. recognized training component permits the student to operate radiographic equipment and is an important element of the program. This is learned through practical instruction on mannequins on site.

This program also includes an Intra-oral component, which will develop proficiency in a number of direct client care procedures.

Earning a diploma in this course will qualify the graduate for the National Dental Assistant Board Examination. This designation is required to perform intra-oral dental skills in the Province of Ontario.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of our program will seek positions as clinical chair side dental assistants, and Level II intra-oral assistants in private practices and dental clinics. Graduates may explore positions as office administrators and treatment coordinators in general practice and specialty dental offices. Further opportunities may include public health departments, dental clinics, hospitals, and dental office supply and equipment sales.
